In the post-apocalyptic world of Dystopia Rising, stories can explore intense and dramatic themes that push the boundaries of survival, morality, and society. While these moments can create powerful storytelling experiences, it’s essential that they are handled with care, respect, and awareness of those around us.

Age Restrictions

Dystopia Rising Kansas is an 18+ event. Due to the mature themes and liability considerations, participation is limited to adults 18+ and over. As a boffer LARP with intense content, and we expect players to engage with the material—and each other—with the maturity and decorum of responsible adults.

Respect & Boundaries

Dystopia Rising is a shared experience, and everyone deserves to feel safe while participating. The following content is strictly prohibited in any form of roleplay, discussion, or action:

• Sexual assault, sexual abuse, or non-consensual advances

• Discrimination based on real-world traits such as race, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or religion

Sometimes, people just don’t get along. Whether it’s the result of a breakup, a falling out, or simply a clash of personalities, we understand that not everyone will want to interact. At Dystopia Rising: Kansas, our No-Contact Policy exists to help players coexist in shared spaces while maintaining the boundaries they need to feel safe and comfortable.

No Real-World Sex, Drugs, or Alcohol

To maintain the integrity of our site and a safe, consent-driven atmosphere, real-world sexual activity, drug use, and alcohol consumption are strictly prohibited at all events. Mind-altering substances obstruct clear consent, and their presence at an event creates liability concerns for both participants and staff.

Additionally, our site explicitly prohibits the use, possession, or distribution of drugs and alcohol on the premises. Any violation of this policy is grounds for immediate removal and further review. Failure to comply with these site regulations may also result in permanent banning from events and further actions at the discretion of Dystopia Rising Kansas and the site owners.

Communication & Player Awareness

Every participant has different comfort levels, and clear, respectful communication is key. Players should express their boundaries openly and be mindful of others’ limits. If someone expresses discomfort, adjust accordingly—our goal is to create engaging stories, not real distress. If a scene feels uncomfortable, players are encouraged to step away or seek guidance from staff.

Language & Boundaries

We’ve received feedback about harsh language and name-calling that happened during a heated roleplay scene. We know emotions can run high, and strong language can sometimes be part of the story. But there’s a line we don’t cross: hate speech or discriminatory remarks have no place here. Period. This is pretty clearly outlined here.

Because “aggressive language” can mean different things to different people, we don’t want to impose blanket rules that would water down the game. Instead, we rely on the OK check-in system and a simple, effective way for adults to manage their own boundaries. If something feels off, use it. If someone checks in with you, respect their response.

If things ever go too far or someone ignores the system, step back and bring in a guide or the Owner Team. We’re here to help when needed, but this only works if we all take responsibility for communicating clearly, respecting each other, and making sure this game stays safe and fun for everyone.

Content Transparency & Event Expectations

Dystopia Rising Kansas will provide easily accessible content guidelines on its website so participants can make informed decisions about their play experience. These lists will be updated regularly to reflect event themes, ensuring players know what to expect before they arrive.

Engagement & Conflict Resolution

Disagreements or misunderstandings can happen. We ask that all players and game hosts engage with each other as adults, assuming good intent unless proven otherwise. If a boundary is crossed or a conflict arises, mature and constructive conversations should be the first step in resolution. If at any point a player feels uncomfortable, they are encouraged to remove themselves from the situation and seek staff support. Individuals who consistently push boundaries or ignore others’ comfort levels will not be allowed to continue play.

Reporting Violations & Seeking Support

If a situation arises that violates our community standards, it can be escalated to one of the four owners on site or brought to our attention via email at team@dystopiarisingks.com. John is taking point on Conflict Resolution and will work with all involved parties to ensure a fair and appropriate resolution. We take all concerns seriously and will respect confidentiality while collaborating with the team to maintain a safe, inclusive, and immersive environment for all participants. 

Knowing Your Limits

Some themes in Dystopia Rising may not be for everyone, and that’s okay. Players will never be penalized for stepping away from a scene. If a scenario is no longer enjoyable, they are encouraged to take a break, check in with staff, or find another way to engage with the game. Not every story will be the right fit for every person, and part of immersive roleplay is knowing when to step in and when to step back.
